Thomas Beadle is an elected state legislator from North Dakota serving in the House of Representatives on behalf of District 27 in Fargo. Beadle graduated from Concordia College in Moorhead with a bachelors in Economics in 2009, and was elected to the state legislator in 2010. He serves on the Industry Business and Labor Committee, the Political Subdivisions Committee, and serves on the interim Higher Education Funding Committee and the Economic Impacts Committee. In addition to serving in the legislature, Beadle is a Commercial Realtor with KW Commercial.
David Ernst is graduate faculty and chief information officer in the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Minnesota. Ernst is the director of the Center for Open Education and the executive director of the Open Textbook Network, which works to improve higher education through the advancement of open textbooks.
Senator Tim Flakoll has served in the North Dakota Senate for the past 17 years in various roles including President Pro Tem of the Senate, Chairman of the interim K-12 Education Finance and Natural Resources committees, Council of State Governments National Governing Board, and MHEC commissioner and executive committee. Flakoll obtained his undergraduate and graduate degree from North Dakota State University (NDSU). He also is an alumnist of the Harvard Kennedy School of Executive Education and the University of Oxford Executive Education program. For the past nine years Flakoll has served as Provost for Tri-College University, the partnership between North Dakota State University, Minnesota State University Moorhead, Concordia College in Moorhead, North Dakota State College of Science and Minnesota State. The five campuses have a combined enrollment of more than 35,000 graduate and undergraduate students.
Teresa Lyn Tande is a tenured associate professor of English/Humanities at Lake Region State College in North Dakota. Throughout her 40 year career in North Dakota, Tande has taught English, and has been involved with literacy, serving on boards (Northern Plains and Red River Writing Projects and North Dakota Council for Teachers of English) as well as giving workshops throughout the state on reading, writing, and processing styles. At LRSC, she is a member of the Diversity Committee and the Retention Committee. She is also a part of the five-member LRSC HLC team. Additionally, she advises the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society on campus and leads the Study Abroad program.
Tanya Spilovoy is director of Distance Education and State Authorization for the North Dakota University System. She leads North Dakota’s 11 public institutions in distance and online education. She is also the regulator for post-secondary, degree-granting institutions. Spilovoy serves on the MHEC-SARA Steering Committee and has just begun her term on the WCET Steering Committee. She is leading the Open Educational Resources Initiative for the NDUS. Spilovoy is interested using technology to creating opportunities for student access and success in higher education.
