Van Davis is associate vice president of Higher Education Research and Policy at Blackboard, Inc. where he is a part of Blackboard’s new Strategic Partnerships and Thought Leadership team. Davis works extensively on distance education and learning technology issues as well as policy issues such as competency based education and workforce alignment. Before joining Blackboard in January 2015, Davis was director of Innovations in Higher Education at the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB). He most recently led the THECB’s efforts in responding to Governor Rick Perry's calls for a $10,000 bachelor's degree by directing the Texas Affordable Baccalaureate Project funded through an EDUCAUSE Next Generation Learning Challenges grant, which resulted in the creation of the state’s first competency based education baccalaureate degree at South Texas College and Texas A&M Commerce. Additionally, Davis directed the state's adult degree completion project, Grad TX (http://www.gradtx.org) as well as the state’s course redesign grant program, online faculty professional development program, annual Reinventing Instruction and Learning Conference, and the development of the state's digital learning objects repository. Davis holds a M.A. and Ph.D. in 20th Century U.S. History from Vanderbilt University with an emphasis in civil rights history as well as a B.A. in History from Southwestern University.
Laura Kite is the assistant dean for Student Affairs for University of Wisconsin-Extension Continuing Education, Outreach and E-Learning. Her focus is on developing and delivering exceptional student services to support adult learners in the UW Flexible Option and other online degrees. Her previous role was as project director for the UW Flexible Option. In that role, Kite’s primary focus was on coordinating and integrating all aspects of the initiative to develop and launch the UW Flexible Option. Prior to her project management role, Kite has worked with UW-Extension Continuing Education, Outreach and E-Learning for over twenty years in a number of capacities, serving as an advisor, student services coordinator, student services program manager and the director of Information Technology. She holds a MS in Educational Administration and BA in Psychology, both from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Michael Lorenz is the registrar/executive director of Records at Kaplan University, where he manages the records processing, prior learning evaluation, document imaging, and data/analytics functions. Previously, he has overseen academic advising, career services, student success coaching, tutoring, and related student services functions at Kaplan and elsewhere. For a time he oversaw the Kaplan University’s library, leading the transition from an outsourced collection to the creation of its own in-house, full-service library. Lorenz started life as a high school Latin teacher.
Tanna Rasmussen is currently student services coordinator and CBE completion coach for the Washington state pilot Online CBE Business degree program. Prior to this position, she served as a university advisor and the assessment and accreditation Manager for business and education programs at Eastern Oregon University and as an advisor in the TRiO/Student Support Services program at Blue Mountain Community College. Tanna earned a Ph.D. in Education and a MA-TESOL degree at Seattle Pacific University.
Joellen Shendy has over 25 years in higher education, all in a Registrar's Office. She has spent the last nine years as a Registrar, currently at University of Maryland University College and previously at National University in San Diego, CA. Shendy has presented at AACRAO, PACRAO, CAPACRAO, Learning Impact Leadership Institute, PESC Data Summit, UPCEA, and NAFSA Association of International Educators. She currently chairs the Business Processes and Systems Strand for the Compentency Based Education Network (C-BEN) and leads an IMS Global workgroup on Extending the Transcript for Competency Based Education.
Cali Morrison, manager, Communications, has responsibility for WCET's communications strategies and keeping our members connected to the cooperative. Morrison holds a B.A. in Public Relations from Western Kentucky University, a M.Ed. in Adult & Higher Education from Montana State University, an online graduate certificate in Women's Studies from Western Kentucky University and is currently pursuing an Education Doctorate (Ed.D.) in Higher Education Administration from Montana State University. Prior to joining WCET, she worked at Montana State University in various positions for over seven years. Morrison lives in Bozeman, MT with her husband, two daughters and, dogs, where she is active in the community, especially with the CAP mentoring and Girls for a Change programs.
