David Clinefelter is the chief academic officer at The Learning House, Inc., in Louisville, Kentucky, where he develops academic tools, training and strategies for online higher education. Clinefelter was a professor at the University of Nebraska, Omaha; a lecturer at The Ohio State University; and both vice president of academic affairs and president at Graceland University. In 2002, Clinefelter was provost at Kaplan University, and chief academic officer at Walden University.
Mike Palmquist is Associate Provost for Instructional Innovation, Professor of English, and University Distinguished Teaching Scholar at Colorado State University, where he leads university-wide efforts to enhance learning and teaching in face-to-face, blended, and distance courses. His scholarly interests include writing across the curriculum, the effects of computer and network technologies on writing instruction, and new approaches to scholarly publishing.
Kara Van Dam, PhD, serves as vice provost for The Learner & Faculty Experience at University of Maryland University College. In this role, she leads the Faculty Development, Learning Design and Solutions, the Library, and the academic technology experience teams to create an integrated approach towards designing optimum learning experiences for our students. She and her team take a life-cycle approach to the faculty experience, working with The Undergraduate and Graduate Schools both stateside and overseas, to ensure that UMUC recruits and retains highly qualified faculty who are supported in effective, innovative instructional methods and integrally involved in course and program development. Previously, she served as the vice provost of academic affairs and dean of faculty at Kaplan University. There she led large-scale initiatives aimed at improving the institution’s ability to serve students while also providing a rewarding work environment where faculty had more opportunities to engage with and feel supported by the institution.
Russ Poulin organizes WCET's national policy and research activities, edits WCET's Frontiers blog, coordinates WCET's research efforts, and works on elearning consortia issues. He represented distance education in the U.S. Department of Education's 2014 Negotiated Rulemaking process. Previously, he coordinated distance education activities for the North Dakota University System.
